This in-depth postnatal assessment is recommended for everyone who has given birth, whether you have had a caesarean or vaginal birth. Recommended from 6 weeks postnatal*, and it is never too late!
This specialist post-natal physio check is a comprehensive assessment where we will explore your pregnancy, birth and post-natal experience. The assessment aims to optimise pelvic health and wellbeing.
We will explore your birth story as much as you are comfortable, and how your post-natal recovery has been so far including screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction, and any concerns or symptoms you may have. This will be followed by an in depth physical assessment including
Back, hip and pelvis assessment
In depth assessment of abdominal muscles including checking for diastasis recti (tummy gap)
Assessing any scars including c-section and perineal scars.
Reviewing posture and breathing
Pelvic floor muscle assessment including optional vulval and vaginal assessment.
Treatment will include a bespoke rehab programme, individualised pelvic floor muscle rehab and personalised advice and support for returning safely to the activities and sport you enjoy.
We will also provide lifestyle advice and strategies to optimise health in the post-natal period. Treatment may also include manual therapy or scar massage where needed.
Follow-up appointments can also be arranged if further rehab is needed to help you achieve your personal goals.
*We are able to provide specialist physiotherapy support earlier than 6 weeks if you would like to start rehabilitation earlier, please do get in touch to discuss further how we can support you in the early days and weeks post-birth.

Of course!
We know it can be challenging to get out and about with a baby, let alone finding childcare. You are very welcome to bring your little one with you to your appointment.

The Mummy MOT is 60 minutes. You will then be provided with a detailed bespoke treatment plan and resources to support you further.

Usually an internal vaginal examination is recommended to assess pelvic floor muscle function. The assessment includes checking pelvic floor muscle strength, endurance, length and coordination. This is usually done lying down, and sometimes may be recommended in standing.

You are welcome to request a chaperone for your appointment or certain examinations. Please let us know before your appointment and we can arrange this for you.
You are also welcome to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointment.
